County Office of Employment and Training Provides
‘Working Attire’ for Job Hunters in-need.

Eligible job seekers can now find appropriate work attire thanks to a new program offered by the Delaware County Office of Employment and Training (OET) and the Delaware County Assistance Office.

“PA WORKWEAR” of Delaware County is now open in the Federal Building in Chester, offering those on welfare a wide variety of working clothes from professional suits to nurse’s aide uniforms and construction clothes. Clients must be referred by their employment case manager or their county assistance caseworker.

“PA WORKWEAR” is a non-profit program that assists referred clients in finding clothing that’s suitable for job interviews and employment. The goal is to help those who receive welfare by providing them with everything they need to look and feel professional when they go on job interviews and, once they land a job, they can get five work-appropriate outfits.

The program, funded by the Department of Public Welfare, provides actual clothing as opposed to cash payments for people who need professional attire to secure employment. Stephanie Cacciavillano, OET’s welfare program manager, said a non-profit agency, Capacity Developers INC., is managing the day-to-day operations of “PA WORKWEAR”of Delaware County.

“In 2007, we had 4,000 requests from welfare recipients for clothing, which shows there is a real need for this program, “ Cacciavillano said.

The “PA WORKWEAR” program is designed for both men and women and makes available a variety of different fashions in all sizes. The racks are stocked with everything from scrubs for nursing care positions to steel-toe boots for construction to office apparel such as suits, dresses and ties.

All the clothes, jewelry, shoes, handbags, and ties are donated. Anyone can make a contribution by searching through his or her closets for new or slightly used working attire that can be donated.

To make a donation one can either drop-off clothes at “PA WORKWEAR”, first floor of the Federal Building, 160 E. Seventh St., Chester. Donors can also contact Mike Falcone, the Community Specialist from Capacity Developers INC. who is managing the shop. Falcone will make arrangements for donations to be picked up. He can be reached at (610) 680-6423. Donors will receive a tax receipt for all donations.

Ms. Cacciavillano said “PA WORKWEAR” has  a Website(www.capacitydevelopers.org), a quarterly newsletter and fashion shows and fund-raisers. Volunteers are welcome to join the team to help out with fund-raising events and to secure clothing donations.

“PA WORKWEAR” is a way for people to lend a hand to fellow county residents who can use some assistance for a fresh start in the working environment. It is an opportunity to help and make a difference in someone else’s life,” said Frank Carey, OET Director.

PA WORKWEAR of Delaware County is open for donations from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 160 E. Seventh Street., Chester. Clients needing clothing must schedule an appointment. For information call (610) 499-1610.
