Job Training
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)
Provides funding for job search assistance and skills training for individuals in one of the following groups:
Adults
An individual who is 18 yrs of age or older and meets all of the following criteria:
To be eligible, you must meet all of the following criteria:
- You are 18 years of age or older.
- You are a U.S. Citizen, or noncitizen authorized to work in the United States.
- You are registered with Selective Service (for males 18 years of age and over).
- You are low-income, and you meet one of the following criteria:
- Customer receives or is a member of a family that receives (currently or in the past six months) one of the following:
a. TANF, or
b. SNAP, or
c. SSI, or
d. Other public assistance; or
—-Foster Child; or
—-Homeless; or
—-Receives or is eligible to receive free or reduced-price lunch; or
—-Deficient in Basic Skills
Dislocated Workers
An individual who has been laid-off or terminated and meets the following eligibility guidelines:
To be eligible to receive WIOA services as a dislocated worker programs, an individual must:
- be 18 years of age or older;
- be a citizen or noncitizen authorized to work in the United States;
- meet Military Selective Service registration requirements (males only); and
- meet the definition of dislocated worker at WIOA §680.130.
Youth
An Individual who is 16-24 years of age and meets the eligibility guidelines:
You may qualify if you meet all of the following criteria:
- You are between the ages of 16-24.
- You are a U.S. Citizen.
- Registered with Selective Service (males 18+).
- You are Low-Income.
- You meet the definition of Out of School Youth at WIOA §681.210 and you meet one or more of these barriers:
- School dropout
- Homeless
- Foster child
- Pregnant or parenting
- Offender or
- A low income individual who requires additional assistance to complete an educational program, or to secure and hold employment.
FAQ's
WIOA provides funding for training in occupational skills which may occur on the job or in the classroom. For a complete list of the occupations for which training is available, please go to Delaware County’s High Priority Occupations. The classroom training must be with an approved provider.
